THE IMPORTANCE OF WELCOME TO COUNTRY
In the lead-up to National Reconciliation Week, ATEA is proud to host a special virtual seminar exploring The Importance of Welcome to Country with inspiring guest speakers:
Emeritus Professor Simon Forrest – Nyungar Elder, esteemed academic, and lifelong advocate for Aboriginal education – will share insights into the cultural, historical, and symbolic significance of Welcome to Country protocols.
Tessa Keenan, General Manager – Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Education at Reconciliation Australia, will speak to the role of education in reconciliation and how respectful cultural practices like Welcome to Country can be meaningfully embedded in schools and early learning services.
Dr Candace Kruger – Yugambeh woman, award-winning composer, choral conductor, and educator – will share her unique perspective on cultural identity, language revitalisation, and the importance of connecting to Country through song, story, and education.
Together, our guests will unpack how these important cultural traditions contribute to creating inclusive, respectful, and reconciled learning environments across all sectors.
Join us for this important conversation as we reflect, learn, and prepare to engage meaningfully with the theme of National Reconciliation Week, 'Bridging Now to Next'.
